Showtime has renewed the popular serial-killer TV series Dexter for two more seasons after it signed lead actor Michael C. Hall. Each season (the show’s 7th and 8th) will consist of 12 episodes each. But minutes after the announcement, Deadline is reporting that the show will most likely end at the end of Season 8. Showtime’s Entertainment
President David Nevins:
“I’m not going to say with absolute certainty that this is the end, but that is the likely scenario, that the series moving towards a definite end.”
I’ve always been a fan of shows that know when they will end and how they will end. From Lost to The Wire, shows that are able to have a specific time constraint to tell their story arc are able to do so with class and finality. There’s nothing more unsatisfying than a show that ends prematurely (Dollhouse, Arrested Development) or a show that is there beyond its prime (24, Scrubs).
