I think several people are a little confused as to why there is another reboot to the Spiderman franchise only a few years after Sam Raimi’s trilogy. Simple answer: money. The better question is why we should be excited for the new Spierman series. The answer is once again, simple: Marc Webb. The young director has only made one movie, but it’s one of my favorites — 500 Days of Summer. From the ability to make the trite flashbacks enjoyable to the lovely song-and-dance scene, Marc Webb has the potential to make this Spiderman series different from any other. Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) and Emma Stone (Easy A) are also a much better duo than Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, in my opinion.
But since any superhero movie ultimately depends on the villain, The Lizard will be Spiderman’s nemesis in the new film. Rhys Ifans (Greenberg) will take on the role, and while I frankly haven’t seen too much of his work, he’s a well-respected independent actor within Hollywood circles. And to wet your appetite a little more, the above image is the concept art for The Lizard. The Amazing Spider-Man, which also stars Martin Sheen, Sally Field, and Denis Leary opens July 3, 2012.
