FILM: The Artist, Scorcese Win in DC

The WAFCA (Washington DC film critics) has announced their winners, and it’s been more of the same. Michel’s Hanazavicius’ The Artist picks up another award for Best Film while Martin Scorsese receives Best Director for his work in Hugo. Almost companion pieces, both movies pay homage to cinema of the past. One is in black-and-white and the other is in 3-D, but both are superb examples of storytelling at its best. Here is the full list of the 2011 WAFCA Award Winners:

Best Animated Feature:
Rango

Best Documentary:
Cave of Forgotten Dreams

Best Foreign Language Film:
The Skin I Live In

Best Art Direction:
Dante Ferretti, Production Designer, and Francesca Lo Schiavo, Set Decorator (Hugo)

Best Cinematography:
Emmanuel Lubezki (The Tree of Life)

Best Score:
Ludovic Bource (The Artist)
