After J.J. Abrams lost out on his first choice of Benicio Del Toro to play the villain Khan in the Star Trek sequel, Variety says there are now two frontrunners for the role: Edgar Ramirez and Jordi Molla. The more interesting and exciting of these names is Ramirez who gave one of the finest performances of the past decade with his portrayal of Carlos the Jackal in the 2010 biopic. Molla, on the other hand, is known for his roles in Colombiana and Bad Boys II.

Benicio Del Toro turned down the main villain role in the upcoming Star Trek sequel when negotiations fell apart last week. However, the villain of Khan will still be in the new movie despite Del Toro’s decision. Negotiations broke apart reportedly because Paramount wouldn’t offer the Oscar winning actor the kind of money he was demanding. Star Trek will begin shooting next month for a May 15, 2013 release.

It’s a little bit of a slow news day, so might as well throw in some casting news for the highly-anticipated Star Trek 2. We already know the film will be shot in 3-D and it will be released in 2013. The entire cast will be returning, and now…fanboys get add another attractive face to the mix. Alice Eve (She’s Out of My League, Entourage) has joined the cast, according to Variety. Who she will play, however, is still up in the air and it will reportedly be a brand new character.

I normally wouldn’t care too much about this news, but I screened She’s Out of My League once with her in the room. I think she’s a name to really watch out for — she’s got the looks and underrated acting chops, in my opinion…but that may be based on her looks and her British accent. Eve will also star in Men in Black III, The Raven, and probably the Entourage movie. You can plan to bookmark her as the next Megan Fox. Hopefully, she doesn’t crash and burn too.
